As both a former athlete and coach, Paul uses his unique perspective on
sports to depict in his drawings the strength and beauty of athletic competition
that lasts after the game has ended.
As a former member of the varsity soccer team at West Virginia University and
a coach of youth soccer, Paul has the unique artistic opportunity to become familiar
with the subject of his artwork on the playing field. Using his familiarity with both
athletics and athletes, Paul carefully studies each sport and element that he is called
upon to draw so that every subtle detail can be incorporated in his creations.
This essential bond between Paul and the athletes he draws has helped him
to capture the passion, commitment, and pure intensity of competitive athletics, while
producing artistically impressive works. Although Paul is a completely self-taught
artist, his work reflects the precision and attention to detail that he learned while
earning a degree in Landscape Architecture. In fact, Paul can spend up to six
weeks to finish one of his drawings, refusing to be rushed in his pursuit of perfection.
His artistic attention to the subtleties and fervor of sports has been such that
several of his works are on display in galleries throughout the United States. In
addition, over 150 of Paul's works have been published.
Paul was born in Nuremberg, Germany in 1965, but has lived in Maryland's
Chesapeake Bay area for most of his life. He graduated from West Virginia University in 1989, and in 1991 he started his own art and
design business.
